Incase you haven’t heard it around your astrology or cosmic tracker circles, yesterday was a pretty powerful full moon. Speaking the language of energy, I completely believe, follow, and feel the cycles of the moon. I am by no means an expert (I have my own favorite circles I consult when I’m curious), but I do try to honor the full moons and the new moons as they have undeniable influence on my body, my emotions, and the natural world around me.
Ancient cultures from around the world have honored the cycles of the moon and I am fascinated by the practices of ritual and ceremony that have been around for ages. The world is obviously quite different now than it was when indigenous cultures planned their lives around the seasons and the skies. But the thread that connects our world to the ancient world, and our modern practices to traditional rituals, is the focus on intention. It’s actually a question I ask about every day: “what is my/your/their intention?”
During the magnetic energy of the full moon, our intention is to release anything we’re holding on to that isn’t serving our highest good. It takes introspection and honesty. It requires a connection to what you desire and the values on which you stand. And you can energetically let go of habits, relationships, language & thought patterns, excuses…whatever you perceive as keeping you from living a life that fully inspires you.
When I say “release it to the full moon,” all that’s really required is getting quiet for a few minutes, holding that intention strong in your heart, gazing up toward the moon (even if it’s hidden behind clouds), and declaring that you are letting this baggage go. Think of it as cosmic composting (oh my gosh…I think I’m going to trademark that one!): whatever you release is transformed and cycled back in to the Universe as positive energy.
All a little too woo-woo for you? Let me ask you this: what’s the harm? Becoming aware and intentionally releasing your need for a glass of wine (or 3) to wind down at the end of the day, or your on again/off again fling with that guy that body shames you, or that persistent inner voice that tells you your not good enough is a tremendously powerful thing to do. Do it in the bathtub, if you don’t like the moon. Do it at the shoreline. Do it on your birthday. Just do it. Mother Nature gives us these beautiful, intuitive cycles which we can use in self-examination and personal growth. I believe in their energy. But I also believe that you don’t have to believe in order for awareness and intentional action to work in bringing you more of what you want in your life.
Here’s a few shots from a full moon ritual I performed about a month ago. I maintain a little altar in my studio, in front of which I meditate most days. (Stay tuned for a future blog post about altars, what they’re all about, and how to create one.) The items on my altar hold my dreams and intentions, the thoughts and worries that float through my mind during meditation, and the energy of my studio space. It’s a good idea to clear that energy out every now and again — like sweeping the energetic cobwebs away.
There you have it! If you have any questions or would like further details about any of the steps above, please let me know! I’d love to share what I know and what inspires me! You have a whole month before the next full moon is upon us. Peak your awareness to the things that are keeping you from living as brilliantly as you possibly can. The new moon is the time to declare what it is you want to create in your life so while you’re at it, start thinking about that too! I’m here to help if you’re finally ready to have a partner in the setting of your soul-centered goals!
Peace out, everyone!
