With the cycles of the moon…
we are given the opportunity to connect with our intentions, visualize our dream lives, and release all that stands in the way of us living as the fullest, most luminous version of ourselves.
There is science and there is spirit behind this powerful moon energy. Personally, I find peace and connectedness in tuning in to these cycles of nature, without the need to fully understand how this dynamic energy works.
What I declare is true is true for me, and today I feel the energy of possibility because of this belief.
The New Moon is when the sky is dark, void of the light of the sun shining on the face of the moon. The space in the sky normally occupied by the image of the moon is void–a blank canvas. From here we witness the moon waxing for the next two weeks, and in turn we can witness our vision for ourselves coming more and more in to the light.
The New Moon is the time to get still and play in our imagination. Between now and the next New Moon in about a month,
what do we want to experience? How do we want to feel? What do we consciously want to welcome in to our lives to experience a fuller, more abundant form of happiness?
Play with your senses! They’re one of the most extravagant gifts of being human! Close your eyes and imagine the vibrant colors, the luscious smells, the invigorating textures, and the glorious sounds that represent this authentically fulfilling life you are creating!
Today is also the Chinese New Year, which always falls on the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice. Again, without a need to understand astrology or ancient Chinese traditions, we can see this as another new start. Personally, I’m more drawn to the Chinese New Year than the Western calendar New Year on January 1. I feel it’s a gentler time to connect to that which we desire to manifest in our lives.
The theme of this year according to the Chinese calendar is Fire Monkey. This is based on astrological cycles, a rotation of dominating elements and the dance of yin and yang, among other things. The theme denotes a certain personality to the year to come.
I have been excited about the year of the Fire Monkey because it matches with my intentions for 2016. This is my simple interpretation, based on what I have read, what I intuitively feel, and what I intend.
this is the element of ACTION. It’s high energy, assertive, and hot. It has the ability to motivate us (think about sayings like “light a fire under your butt”), but it also has the ability to destroy. Maybe there is some destruction that needs to happen this year in order for something newer, grander, fresher to be born. Think about your intentions–what do you need to burn down in order to make space for what you desire? Where do you need a little fire at your heels to get you moving in the direction of your dreams?
To temper the high and sometimes aggressive tendencies of fire, let’s introduce a little playfulness. Monkeys are silly and a bit ornery! Don’t take everything so damn seriously! This is what the monkey is here to remind us. She is clever and she knows what she wants. Be creative in the design of your life and welcome more joy, more play, and a general sense of light-heartedness in to your year. Take purposeful action and be deliberate on your course. But if you start to feel like you’re burning out, stop and have some FUN!
Ideally work and play are not mutually exclusive in our lives. I like to think of the year of the Fire Monkey as the ideal time to dream up a scenario that blends the two. Visualizing this for myself creates a sense of peace and calm deep in my system. That fire is burning and I’m using it as fuel to operate the machinery of my desire, my skills & talents, and my human abilities to create even more abundance, joy, connection, and wholeness in my life–while remembering that if I’m not having fun every day, then I’m missing the entire point.
