Fall Equinox happened over the weekend and we’re feeling it almost instantaneously here in Georgia. The temperatures are cooler and there are golden leaves spattered amongst the green on the trees. The fiery overly-active energy of summertime is waning to the calmer, cozier energy of autumn. I love this season–always have. Football games, spicy ciders, crock pot dinners, and most of all–surrendering those sandals for leather boots!
Fall Equinox beckons us to contemplate balance. Summer is about outward energy: we’re more exposed physically, parties, pool or beach time, beating sun, hours outdoors. Winter is about inward energy: more hours of darkness each day, sitting around the fireplace to keep warm, layers of clothes to protect us from the frigid elements, snuggling in with loved ones. Fall and Spring offer us the opportunity to strike a balance between these two extremes.
We can think about this in terms of our own personal growth as well. Our bodies and our souls crave the equilibrium of inner contemplation and outward expression. It’s time to slow down from all the “doing” and revisit the practice of “being.” It’s a time to explore our reality and make sure it is in alignment with our values and our highest selves. By the time Spring rolls around we’ll be so ready to come out of our cocoons, but for now wrapping ourselves in our protective blankets with the intention of manifesting positive change and growth is exactly what is being called for.
Be sure to keep that balance going–reflect, write, rest, read…but also share, socialize, laugh, and listen. Sounds like a recipe for a beautiful fall to me!
