These gorgeous creatures have been my focus for the past 10 weeks. Who am I kidding? They’ve been my focus for the last 13, 11-1/2, and 10 years respectively. I wear bifocals though when it comes to where I chose to direct my energy. Seasons, phases, weeks, hours…there is constant movement in the world of mothering. Will one child require the majority of your energy for a while, will the household in general leave you wondering where the time went, will you need to take a few days to just nurture yourself, to restore your spark from all the giving?
This is the thing: balance is not a destination. We can’t get there. At least not in a sustainable way…maybe for a few brief moments. We are in a constant state of balancing. There are going to be times when we are focused and giving all to one child, to our work, to our partner, to ourselves (no–this is NOT selfish). We are called to be mindful of this, and when we are able, shift the focus to even the scales a little bit.
There are layers to this, and I’ve been working through them a lot lately. It requires trust. And surrender. And fortitude (oh my gosh–what a great word that is!!). You are here to serve the world, however that may manifest. That can only be done if we mindfully give and receive. Act and rest. Hold tight and let go. And have faith…have faith that you are divinely guided, that you are where you are supposed to be, and that your light adds power to the light of your loved ones, your community, and your world.
Shine on, my friends!
