Change. It’s happening all the time, all around us. It’s the nature of life on this planet.
Change: to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone.
Us humans, we tend to resist change. We like our routines. Predictability. Status quo…
Until we don’t like the status quo anymore, until we get bored, until the thought of changing hurts less than the thought of staying where we are. Sometimes its an event on the horizon like a big birthday or a wedding. We might run across a new product or a book that opens our eyes to how change could improve our lives. Often times it’s a health scare that shakes us deeply enough to challenge the stability we were relying on, showing us that nothing is permanent.
It’s the resisting that’s painful though, not the change. Imagine tulip bulbs under the Earth. As spring approaches and the ground begins to warm they naturally start reaching to break the surface. What if they fought this, struggling to stay in the dark, cool soil. They were created to grow and bloom, but they resist this change and fight to stay protected, unseen. Guess what’s gonna happen? They’re going to grow anyway.
What if we embraced change in our lives. What’s on the other side is unknown and that can be a bit frightening, but we were made to evolve. The journey can be uncomfortable at times, but staying hidden is not the solution.
No matter what the impetus may be for you, take change on. In what areas of your life are you resisting change, and how would it feel to break through that boundary you have set up and fully step in to a brighter, more vibrant version of yourself?
Like that tulip–once she breaks through the surface and rises toward the sun… she appears in full bloom! Then not only is she living in full expression, she’s sharing her beauty with the rest of the world, inspiring bravery and change in all who see her.
